The timed exam for your driver’s permit consists of 25 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within 25 minutes, and the test can only be passed with a 72% or better. The knowledge test is based on the 2023 Massachusetts Driver’s Manual, and is offered on a computer system in English and Spanish. Questions will concentrate on traffic laws, road signage, safe driving techniques, and driving under the influence. To take the written knowledge exam and receive your learner’s permit, you’ll need to be at least 16 years of age, take a vision test, provide proper identification, and pay a $30 permit fee.
